Bridge

VHF is set to channel 9 in Florida.  May also see channel 13 or 67 used.  (May need to look up bridge channel, some will also monitor channel 16, may need to call by phone.)

Before approaching the bridge, activate the transmission button on VHF radio.

Release the VHF transmit button and wait 2 minutes for an acknowledgement.

If no response, activate the transmission button on VHF radio.

Opening sound signal is 1 prolonged blast (4-6 sec) and 1 short blast (1 sec).

 

Release the VHF transmit button and wait for response.

Activate the transmission button on VHF radio.

 

Confetti is requesting the next opening.

We are a 50 foot sailing catamaran

Traveling (direction, i.e. eastbound)

(May need to give description if other similar vessels, such as white with tan trim)

Over

 

Bridge should confirm request, may provide instructions.

If they say over, respond back that you acknowledge.

If they say out, sit back until the bridge opens.  (Vessels running with current usually go first.)

Proceed at no wake speed.

After crossing the bridge opening, activate the transmission button on VHF radio.

 

Confetti has cleared the opening. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
