VHF is set to channel 16.

Activate the transmission button on VHF radio.

On channel 16

Over

Release the VHF transmit button and wait for an acknowledgement. 

If response, activate the transmission button on VHF radio.

Request you switch to channel 69.  (or 68, 71, 72, 78A)

Over

Release the VHF transmit button and wait for an acknowledgement.

“This is (other vessel name) switching over to channel 69

Over”

Switch to requested channel and continue the conversation.
