Weather

  • Know wind, gusts, waves and weather

Emergency Plan

  • Float plan is written and sent to on-land contact​

  • Everyone on board knows location, plan, and schedule

  • Everyone knows what to do in an emergency​

Handheld Audio

  • Options available (airhorn and whistle)

  • Where they are located

VHF

  • Operational

  • Everyone knows how to operate and where sample scripts are located​

Grab Bag

  • Is stocked and available. 

  • Everyone knows it is located on floor by the coffee table. 

  • It is light enough to be carried by everyone on board. 

  • Any means to handle it if it falls into the water is attached.

Man Overboard

Life Jacket

Safety Harness

Tether

Throwable 

Jackline

  • Everyone knows the procedure​

  • At least one is available for everyone

  • Personal flotation devices are active

  • Tether can be attached with D rings

  • Worn high on the chest (i.e. bust line for women)

  • Tight

  • Available and in good condition

  • Everyone knows how to use them

  • Available and in good condition

  • Everyone knows how to use them

  • Installed for long blue water voyages or known short rough waters

  • Inspected: No chafing, No sun/UV damage
